A sensory place poem rooted in the student’s actual school environment.

Skills

Students skip the clichés by looking hard at what’s actually there.

Students practice isolating the five senses to describe their immediate environment with care.

Students write down what they notice first, then turn the familiar into something new.

The test is simple: can a classmate tell which room you wrote about?

The session

Observe: collect raw sensory data from overlooked details in a familiar school space
Collect: build sensory word banks
Shape: arrange images into lines and stanzas
Share: oral reading focused on specificity
