Planning a residency
What matters most is having enough time to plan the residency properly. That process looks like this:
- Identify the needs and timeline.
- Meet with the educators to identify their needs and formalize a schedule.
- I send you a residency welcome package: what to expect, classroom needs, precautions or heads-up items, current learning context, what works well with the students, how teachers stay involved, and more.
That process tends to go smoothly with about two weeks of lead time, but urgent or shorter-notice requests are always welcome, as long as we can meet the educators’ needs and schedule together. The goal is as little stress as possible for educators, with enough time to prepare well.
School residencies are most often requested October–November and February–April, though we can work around your calendar.

How much lead time do you need?
There’s no fixed cutoff, things change and urgent needs happen. For workshops, keynotes, and performances, a few weeks is usually enough. For residencies, the timeline is really about the planning process: identifying needs, meeting with educators to formalize a schedule, and preparing a residency welcome package. That process works best with about two weeks of lead time, but shorter notice is always welcome as long as it fits the educators’ needs and schedule.
What information do you need for a quote?
Number of participants, program duration, location (travel costs apply outside Edmonton), program focus, and preferred dates.
What are your fees?
Every engagement is priced around its actual shape: format, duration, audience size, and travel, rather than a flat rate. Pro bono and reduced rates are considered for community organizations and schools in high-needs areas. Share your event details for a clear quote.
Do you offer virtual or online programs?
Yes, for consulting, keynotes, and some organizational workshops. School workshops and residencies are strongly recommended in person.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, for larger engagements: usually 50% deposit at contract signing, 50% on completion.
Can you work with our existing curriculum?
Yes. Programs align with Alberta Language Arts outcomes (K-12) and can integrate with existing units and themes. See Curriculum Alignment.
What if we need to reschedule or cancel?
Per contract, generally: 30+ days notice gets a full refund or free rescheduling; 14–30 days retains 50% of the deposit; under 14 days the deposit is forfeited, with exceptions for genuine emergencies.
